Do you consider yourself a real “coffee person?” Do you sometimes organize your day around where you can stop to grab a “good cup of joe?” Do you rate your restaurants in part by the coffee they serve you at the end of your meals? Is the provenance of your coffee important to you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I’m hoping you’ll be happy to know that we recently committed to buying our coffee – YOUR coffee – from Equal Exchange.

Equal Exchange partners with small farmer co-ops to change power structures in the food system and to provide exceptional organic coffee, tea, and chocolate from around the globe. They place as much importance on the relationships they build with the farmers of the beans as they do the beans themselves, traveling to the countries where they purchase the beans directly to help develop sustainable systems that enable continued growth.

At The Elephant Walk in Waltham we are now serving Equal Exchange’s “Breakfast Blend” as our regular coffee, which is a combination of a medium and French roast beans from Guatemala and Mexico. We’re now also serving their “Black Silk Espresso” which is designed to compliment milk based drinks like cappuccinos and lattes.

If you are thinking “that’s great, but I really enjoy my coffee in the morning on the way to work,” well, we’re working on getting you covered there, too. My partner Bob and I have started putting together Bliss Diner at 655 Main Street (the former home of Waltham’s popular In a Pickle) where we will also be serving these exceptional coffees, from 7am – 2:30pm daily beginning later this fall.

We hope you enjoy the coffee.
